What is DCI? |
Drum Corps International (DCI), is a highly competitive marching music competition. It is a type of marching band competition, but with some key differences from high school marching bands. DCI corps are independent groups, and they compete over the summer. They recruit college-age performers to tour the entire country, performing shows and competing with other corps along the way. The corps follow a strict physical and musical training schedule, and typically spend 10+ hours per day in rehearsal (not including meal breaks). It is an extremely challenging activity both from a physical and mental perspective, but the shows that DCI corps perform are unlike any other within the marching music sphere. Over my 5 seasons of drum corps, I learned how to work hard, stay focused under immense pressure, and push myself mentally and physically harder than I had ever been pushed before. I woke up every day at 7:15 for intense physical training, and went to sleep at 11:00 every night, following a strict schedule of practice, performance, and travel.

My DCI History
|
My most recent drum corps experience has been with the Blue Knights, a corps from Denver, CO. That summer was an excellent season for the 51-year-old corps, and we broke several long-standing competitive records. |
